Dona Menô

Vestiges
(Leila Marinho Lage)

Your past lives the house that you sheltered
For so long, that the strings of the cuckoo clock

Which rust the ugly gears
Prevent me from getting back to that minute

I eternalize your smell in the bed of the methodical sex
Strands of your hair still remain on the towel
Dry the vestiges of the solitary tear
On the wrinkled sheets of that love without nexus

I keep your memories as salvation
For them I live each moment
I blind myself of the absurd evidence
The obvious loss of our feeling

I change the same key that you took away
To hinder the improbable return
Because you left the sandals as adornment
Stepping on in the steps that you have not stepped

Thus, I go empty and forgotten along the walk
Of the misled life and abandoned by you
Without ground, without haste, without a song
That may hold my useless crying
